Dove and Rainbow

A quick peek at a painting project I finished up this week...

My aunt found these cute pieces of tin, shaped like cathedral windows.  She asked me to paint some scenes on them, making them look like stained glass windows.  She thought doves and rainbows would make a good theme...really neat idea.

I wasn't really sure how to paint stained glass windows on...umm...tin...

...but thank goodness for Google Images!  I was able to view some (real) stained glass windows, glean valuable tips, and create my own design to apply to the tins.

Here's a look at my "stained glassing" process (yeah right, I'm a pro now :)

Okay, the markered "Log Cabin" is not part of the design...I'm painting my rainbow right over it (using Folkart Outdoor paint for non-porous surfaces).

Next I outline the Roy G Biv with black to mimic lead.  I start some sky in the background using a mixture of blue, yellow, and white paint.  You'll notice that I'm leaving room for more "lead" in this painted window.

Now we have clouds!

Right here, I'm painting in the faux lead.
And now it's time for highlights.

Above is the finished product alongside one that I have already completed...Dove and Rainbow!  Yeah!
